Kiwanis Builders Club
Middle School Advisor
In addition to leading monthly student meetings (following Robert’s Rules of Order), our Builders Club has many accomplishments:
The annual Christmas Bake Sale has raised almost $8,000 in the past five years, which benefits the Gadsden Kiwanis Club Kids Christmas Shopping Trip.
The club has collected more than 2,500 cans for the Etowah County Food Bank.
Students work the annual Kiwanis Club Pancake Day preparing to-go meals.
The club contributes to a Pennies for Patients annual drive for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and Kids in Crisis toy drive for first responders.
Students host an end-of-year Kiwanis Family Dinner for students in K-Kids, Builders Club, & Key Club, along with all family members.
Public Relations Committee Advisor & Engineering Notebook Committee Advisor
As advisor to the engineering technical notebook committee, I assist students with its creation, which consists of more than 60 pages and involves close collaboration with the engineers, CAD designers, and public relations department. The notebook is worth forty percent of the overall BEST team score.
Public Relations Committee deals with all areas of PR, including creating a mission statement and brand promise; designing logos, business cards, t-shirts and brochures; drafting a press release and contacting local media; and finally, managing a social media campaign.
Episcopal Day School’s team has participated in BEST Robotics for the past 13 years, and in my five years as advisor has won numerous awards including BEST Notebook and Overall BEST Award.
